Happy Easter Everyone,
I have been unwell this month so have not been around as much as I normally would be. I am now much better, and the dolphins are certainly helping me recover. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been lucky to see many of our flippered friends.
Wave appears to be doing well and has had two of our active male dolphins, Ryan and Captain Hook chasing after her. I have also seen Ripple, Tallula, Marianna, Oriana and Kalea, Bianca and Hope, Mouse (Georgie), Ollie and Bronny.
On a more serious note, one of our young dolphins is looking very unwell.
The calf is spending a lot of time on the surface of the water and may have some mobility issues getting out of the way of approaching watercrafts. This is a very stressful and dangerous time for both the mum and calf. If you are out on the water in a boat, Jet Ski, kayak or any other watercraft, please do not approach the dolphins. If you are in a motorised vessel, operate at the no wake speed within 150 m caution zone and no approach should be made within 50m of the dolphins.
If you do see a sick, injured, entangled or dead dolphin please contact the NPWS Duty Officer 0427 556 676
Enjoy the Easter break. If you are near the Port River or the beach keep an eye out for dolphins; if you do see some have a great time watching them from a safe an enjoyable distance for both you and the dolphins J.
I hope you all have a very safe and Happy Easter.
Look out for the next dolphin update on Friday the 4th May.
Best Wishes
Marianna
